Louise
Osteopath
I originally trained and worked as a massage therapist. I graduated as an Osteopath in 2008 and from September 2008 I worked at the Wotton Osteopathic Practice. I have now decided it is time to establish my own practice and work from both here at The Edge and Church Street Practice in Bradford On Avon . Please see my website at www.louisemeganowen.co.uk. I was drawn to osteopathy because I have experienced in my own life how effective it can be. It has something for everyone. Training to become an Osteopath takes four years full time at university. Learning anatomy, physiology, neural science, clinical examination and diagnosis. As well as learning osteopathy and technique. Before you qualify you spend two years treating real patients during a total of 1000 clinic hours. I treat both structurally and cranially. My structural work consists of massage, and articulation. Relaxing and realigning the muscles and joints. I also do cranial osteopathy which is the treatment of choice for some patients. This is because it is very gentle and relaxing but is equally effective. I tailor treatments to meet my patients’ needs as different people respond better to different treatment approaches. Because Osteopathy is so adaptable, it is suitable for everyone, from the new born to the elderly. I enjoy the challenges that treating such a wide range of patients brings. Treating children and babies is highly rewarding as a little treatment can produce very happy parents. Treating osteo-arthritis is also highly rewarding as it can make such a difference to peoples quality of life. Because a registered Osteopath is a primary health care giver you do not need your doctor’s permission to have treatment. Louise is available for appointments at The Edge on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Massage Therapist
I qualified as a Holistic Massage Therapist with Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork in 2009. Since then I have expanded my knowledge and experience by doing several courses, qualifying in Hot Stone Fusion in 2010 with Jing Massage School in Brighton and Hands Free Massage with Darian Pritchard. Holistic massage benefits the mind, body and spirit. As a holistic massage therapist I tailor the massage completely to what the client needs on that particular day, at that particular time. This allows me to be of most benefit to the client. I am also a Level II Reiki practitioner. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. I trained in Baby massage and have been giving short baby massage courses to small groups of mothers and their babies. This is a lovely way for Mums and babies to connect and it is known to be very beneficial for both babies and Mums. Currently I am training to become a Holistic Equine Therapist and Animal Healer. I am really enjoying the challenge and am looking forward to working with humans and animals in the future.
